Glacier Technology’s 16th Annual Golf Outing took place on Thursday, August 1st and the weather was WET!
Ice Clausen’s mom almost failed him on weather!
Those of you who know your Glacier golf outing history know that Scott’s mom is the official weather guru of the tournament. This year, things were not looking too good at the start. Tee off time was scheduled for 2:00 pm, and at 1:00 pm it was pouring rain, with more predicted for the day. Scott’s mom pulled off a “great weather miracle” as the monsoon stopped right before tee time, keeping it from being dubbed a British Open.
The Official Event Recap
The world-famous Shamrock Golf Course did a great job again of hosting our event. In addition to an ever-ready beer cart, and the golf carts were arranged for us to start our shotgun tournament. This year, the reigning champion, Chris Hanson, was under pressure from a first-time player from Absolent, Doug Schrant. Though Doug was bombing 340 yard drives a few days earlier and putting for eagles, the pressure to unseat the champion crushed any hopes of him winning. Glacier’s reliable victor, Chris, along with his teammates, Jan Stecker, Bill Jacobs and Loni Spence won it again with a -4.
The tournament’s favorite player ”Ice Clausen” finally drew his son-in-law, Danny Johnson, as a partner and had all but spent his potential winnings. Unfortunately the reality hit both Danny and Ice that they were at best bogey golfers! Their other teammates tried to carry the load, but the course conditions proved too much for them, with things being slow and easy to stick a ball on the green.
Chef Kalivoda out did himself once again with fan favorites of beef brisket, chicken, ribs, and homemade baked beans. Lee went all out and started his chef duties at 4:00 am to prepare this feast and it tasted fantastic. We are all grateful!
Glacier has some big changes in store for next year so we are all hopeful that this fun tradition continues.
